The percussionist, composer, and private instructor from Plano, Texas, Brandon Carson (b. 1994), is a graduate from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music Composition with a minor in a new form of artistic computing called Creative Computation.

At SMU, Mr. Carson performed with the Meadows Symphony Orchestra, Meadows Wind Ensemble, Meadows Percussion Ensemble, Meadows Jazz Orchestra, Meadows World Music Ensemble, SYZYGY (Meadows New Music Ensemble), Meadows POINT Ensemble, and the Meadows Chorale and Concert Choirs. He has also performed with the Voices of Change Ensemble, Lone Star Wind Orchestra, and with the Dallas Neo-Classical Ballet.

Bali, Indonesia has become a special place, musically, for Brandon. A trip to study Gamelan music in May 2015 made an impact on his most recent compositions. This island has inspired Carson to compose Balinese Gamelan music of his own, for instruments such as Suling Flute and Gender Wayang. Brandon has recently attended the NYU ASCAP Film Scoring Workshop, where he learned from film and television composers based in New York and Los Angeles.

One of Mr. Carson’s most recent compositions is “Single-Stuffed Oreos”, a contemporary ragtime xylophone solo featuring swing, stride, and a Serbian influenced polka that grows with ferocious intensity and virtuosity.
