Ehsan Shafiee Zargar was born in 1985 in Dezfool. He began learning the Setar from his brother at a young age. In adolescence, while taking intermediate Setar courses with Saeed Ghanbari in Ahvaz, he started playing the Tar. He played in a number of regional music bands and performed music for a number of theater groups. After finishing high school, he studied English translation at the Tarbiat Moallem University of Tehran, and, later on, he attended the University of Tehran to study linguistics. During his studies, he completed advanced Setar courses with proficient masters, including Hamid Sokooti, and he also started learning classical Guitar and studying the basics of music composing. Currently, while being a PhD student of linguistics at the University of Texas at Arlington, he teaches Tar and Setar and is the instructor of Zire Gonbade Kabood (Farsi for children) courses at AramArt.
